Cobb informs Markham that Joseph A Arnold is well known to Mr. Wardwell. He would like Markham and Arnold to meet and discuss the case. Cobb is unhappy over the complications even though Mrs. Anderson has given her consent.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899).
